The (up to) 6 miles walking group meets  bi-monthly on the fourth Friday of each  month . So in 2026 we meet in January, March, May etc. -  9.15am  at the Lower Road Recreation Ground car park. Most of our walks involve a car journey and we usually operate a car share system. Custom and practice suggest the driver is given £2 per passenger to help cover petrol costs. Of course, if you want to drive to our destinations on your own that must remain a free choice.

Most of our walks will be normally no more than 6 miles. We usually walk in Surrey but may sometimes venture into Sussex, Kent or Hampshire. Our aim is to complete the walk in good time to enjoy a pub lunch before heading back to Bookham. Those not stopping for lunch usually car share with fellow non-lunchers. Most of our regulars join us for a pub lunch !

We currently have 15 active members. Our recent turnouts average 10  walkers. This is a keen walking group who are seeking new members. We're a friendly group and we would make new members VERY welcome. Walks are led by various group members.  Each walk leader will complete a recce and let members know walk details at least a week beforehand.  Walk details will include length,  whether its very undulating or largely flat, stiles, any possible hazzards  (eg. Any road walking, muddy sections ) and highlights  eg. viewpoints , llamas, historic buildings etc.  The recce provides members with an assurance that the walk is enjoyable - but also constitutes a risk assessment  !  If you decide to join us there is no requirement to lead a walk although volunteers for this are always welcome. Given more volunteers we'd like to return to a monthly pattern of walks...
